The overall goal of this workshop is to provide teachers with the experience, skills, and confidence to create guided inquiry activities for the 2016-2017 academic year. This three day intensive writing workshop is based on an open writing lab model with expert support in real time. We will begin by reviewing the characteristics of effective learning objectives, the attributes of robust models, and the learning cycle structure of guided inquiry activities. Participants will then work individually or in teams to write short activities for use in their social studies or science courses. Two facilitators will be available for one-on-one consultation. Each day participants will have opportunities to beta test their draft activities, allowing for rapid revision based on peer feedback.
