The primary goal is to support a diverse set of new practitioners through their beginning years of implementation to improve retention of underrepresented instructors in The POGIL Project. Learning Community participants meet in communities of 3-4 with an experienced facilitator about once a month and network with each other in 4 all-cohort meetings throughout the academic year. The last all-cohort meeting is designed as a networking event to foster discussion between Learning Community Participants and POGIL practitioners in the broader community.

The format of the meeting will be two breakout room sessions organized by discussion topics selected by the Learning Community Participants. Discussion topics from prior sessions have included team formation, cultivating a sense of belonging in the classroom, developing student buy-in, etc. We hope you will join us as we welcome the Learning Community Participants more fully into the POGIL community! Bring your best piece of advice for new practitioners!
This introductory workshop designed for those with limited or no previous exposure to POGIL pedagogy. Despite being in a virtual format, this is a very learner-centered, active-learning workshop. There will be a small homework assignment given to help participants reflect on their learning and prepare for either the second half of the day or the second day, depending on whether they attend the 1-day or 2-half day workshop.

Workshop Cancellation Policy
A $25 administrative fee will be retained for cancellations received by April 24, 2024. No refunds will be issued for cancellations after April 24, 2024.
The POGIL National Meeting (PNM) utilizes an application system. Applications were collected and applicants were notified of an acceptance decision in December 2023. Accepted applicants may now register to attend the event.
The PNM provides opportunities for attendees to interact and collaborate with colleagues in a variety of ways that are consistent with the mission and vision of The POGIL Project. For this reason, the PNM includes a mix of plenary sessions, parallel sessions, poster sessions, and open working time. The 2024 meeting participants will work on strategic teams both during the meeting and throughout the following year.
The registration fee includes on-campus housing for Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights, as well as all meals from Saturday dinner through Tuesday lunch. Additional nights of housing and on-campus parking are available for an additional charge. Campus housing is anticipated to be in Liggett House - a modern, air-conditioned, suite-style residence hall where participants will have private bedrooms and semi-private bathrooms.

Workshop Description: Our 2024 POGIL Writers' Retreat provides dedicated time and space for individuals or small teams to focus on developing, writing, and improving POGIL activities under the mentorship of experienced POGIL author coaches. Our Writers' Retreat will allow you to join a like-minded and supportive community so you can share ideas, receive individual consultations, and help each other progress with the writing process on a journey to produce your best work.
The 4-day agenda includes workshop sessions focused on activity authoring and feedback, as well as ample time for writing and interacting with your fellow authors and coaches.
The retreat is appropriate for authors in all content areas at both post-secondary and K-12 levels.
We are also offering an Advanced Writing Track this year for participants who have significant writing experience and/or have attended a previous Writers' Retreat.
Prerequisites are Fundamentals of POGIL, Activity Writing, and PAC Training.
The workshop will be held at Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO beginning on Monday, July 8 at 8:15 AM and ending on Thursday, July 11 at 3:30 PM. Participants who are staying in on-campus housing should plan to arrive on Sunday, July 7 in the late afternoon for registration and check in.
Registration Fee: Includes registration, workshop materials, 4 lunches, and 4 dinners (starting with dinner on Sunday and ending with lunch on Thursday).

Are you ready to take your classroom to the next level? The POGIL Project's 3-day summer workshop provides instructors at all levels with a significant opportunity to obtain professional development in teaching and active learning. The POGIL approach is an innovative method that has equipped thousands of educators with the tools to provide high-quality, active learning experiences for their students. Participants in this workshop will be immersed in the concepts that make POGIL unique, and ultimately bring back skills to their institutions that have been proven to help students work more productively, increase their mastery and retention of key concepts, and improve their academic and interpersonal process skills.
On the first day of the workshop, those who are new to POGIL will attend a Fundamentals of POGIL session while those participants who have previously attended a POGIL workshop will attend two general sessions of universal application (such as Team Formation, Intro to Labs, Best Practices, etc). The start of the second day will expose all participants to Activity Structure and Modeling a POGIL Clasroom. For the remainder of the workshop, participants will follow a series of sessions focused on their chosen interest area - Activity Writing or Classroom Facilitation. While the workshop focus is on STEM disciplines, POGIL methodology is widely applicable and attendees from all disciplines are encouraged to attend.
WORKSHOP COST
Workshop fee, which includes registration, materials, lunches and dinners, is $550. Early birds who register by March 31 pay only $500. On campus housing (optional) for 2 nights is available for an additional $250 and includes accompanying breakfasts.

The POGIL Project has partnered with Colorado School of Mines (CSM) to offer one graduate credit for full attendance at the 3-day workshop at Washington University in St. Louis. This credit will be available to participants for an additional $100. Enrollment and payment collection will take place during the workshop check-in.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
A limited number of scholarships are available to individuals who meet the following criteria:
1. Be a K-12 teacher who teaches in a rural county within the United States or its territories OR be a K-12 teacher in a school with at least a 70% minoritized student population OR be an educator at a Historically Black College or University, Hispanic Serving Institution, or Tribal College.
2. Have limited or no access to professional development funds.
3. Have a commitment to student-centered learning.
